Tom Wood hit a well-made 68 for the Second XI on Day One of the Championship fixture versus Warwickshire at Portland Road.
Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bat first, but Oliver Hannon-Dalby (2-49) took two early wickets removing Rahib Ali (1) and Callum Brodrick (7)
Wood and Charlie Macdonell rebuilt sharing a 75-run partnership, before Macdonell was third man out for 40. Matt Critchley hit a quick 14 before he was bowled by George Panayi (3-31).
Wood went on to top score with 68 off 81 balls, which included 13 fours, while Harvey Hosein hit 41, but the last four wickets fell in quick succession as Derbyshire were all out for 222.
Warwickshire got their innings of to a strong start with the first wicket falling in the 20th over, Ben Curran was caught by Hosein off the bowling of Alfie Gleadall (1-44).
Nick Hammond went soon after without scoring to a Critchley run out, but Liam Banks was the pick of the batsman for the hosts as he hit an unbeaten 120, which included 18 fours and three sixes.
Pace bowler Alex Wyatt bowled economically for Derbyshire returning figures of 0-47 from his 14 overs. Matt Lamb added 51 not out as Warwickshire finished the day 223-2, leading by a run.
