Derbyshire Second XI shared an even Day One against MCC Young Cricketers at Glossop as Gurjit Singh took figures of 4-69 for Derbyshire and the visitors rallied to close on 305-8.
Derbyshire won the toss and put the MCC Young Cricketer’s into bat first, with Singh getting the first breakthrough of the day, dismissing Ben Curran for 11 caught behind by Harvey Hosein.
Shortly after, Alex Wyatt (1-68) had Captain Joe Barrett caught behind by Hosein for 19 and the visitors soon slipped to 50-4, Singh claiming two quick wickets to remove Finn Allen (13) and Tom Smith (6).
Saf Imtiaz and Matthew Cross rebuilt and added 67 for the fifth wicket until Imtiaz was caught off Singh for 33.
Marc Lezar the new man added just six before he was caught by Greg Cork off the bowling of David O’Sullivan (1-40). Cross made 51 before he was caught behind off James Taylor, the score moving onto 156-7.
Luke Jones and Ben Brookes rebuilt the innings again, sharing a 148-run partnership before Charlie Macdonell (1-29) had Jones lbw for 79.
MCC Young Cricketer’s resume 305-8 on Day Two with Brookes 60 not out and Liam Hurt yet to get off the mark.
