Vote now for your May Player of the Month

Supporters can now vote for the Showcase Cinema de Lux Player of the Month for May.

Each month this season, supporters can cast their vote for their Player of the Month by visiting the Club’s official Twitter account.

We’ve selected four nominees; opening batsman Billy Godleman, wicketkeeper-batsman Daryn Smit, all-rounder Shiv Thakor and leg spinner Jeevan Mendis.

All four enjoyed a successful May, now supporters can vote for their Showcase Cinema de Lux Player of the Month. 

Player of the Month: May Nominees

Billy Godleman

The Captain scored 270 runs at an average of 33.75, including 141 against Leicestershire in the Specsavers County Championship, his second century of the season.

The opener’s 141, leading from the front, was an integral part of the fightback which saw Derbyshire post 533 in response to 619 from their opponents and secure a draw.

He is averaging 68.57 in the Specsavers County Championship so far this season and also hit 289 runs in the Royal London One-Day Cup campaign.

Daryn Smit

The wicketkeeper-batsman has been in prolific form behind the stumps in the absence of Gary Wilson, claiming four stumpings and seven catches.

He scored 223 runs across both the Royal London One-Day Cup and Specsavers County Championship throughout May at an average of 55.75.

His highest score of the month was an unbeaten 77 against Yorkshire Vikings at Headingley in the Royal London One-Day Cup, part of a 117-run stand with Wayne Madsen.

Shiv Thakor

Player of the Month in April, Shiv Thakor has enjoyed another successful month in May.

The all-rounder scored 288 runs at an average of 36 and took 13 wickets across both the first-class and List A matches in May.

Thakor hit 132, his highest score for Derbyshire, in the Specsavers County Championship match versus Leicestershire at The 3aaa County Ground.

Jeevan Mendis

The Sri Lanka all-rounder has enjoyed a successful month, including a match-winning batting performance against Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Coming in at seven, he hit 44 off 23 balls, including six fours and one six, guiding Derbyshire to victory in the final over.

He was also Derbyshire’s leading wicket-taker in May with 20, including eight in the Royal London One-Day Cup and 12 in the Specsavers County Championship.
