Warm-up wins for New Zealand and England

New Zealand and England continued their ICC Women’s World Cup preparations with warm-up wins ahead of the tournament opener in Derby on Saturday 24 June.

The White Ferns ran out seven wicket winners against India in Derby, whilst England were eight wicket winners against Sri Lanka at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, India were bowled out for 130, with opener Punam Raut top-scoring with 33. There were wickets for each of the seven bowlers and two each for Anna Peterson, Erin Bermingham and Hannah Rowe in a strong New Zealand bowling display.

Rachel Priest hit 52 and Captain Suzie Bates struck 30 as New Zealand won by seven wickets, with 23.3 overs to spare.

Elsewhere, England Women put in a dominant display as they hit 156-2 inside 31 overs after bowling Sri Lanka out for 155.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat, with Chamari Atapattu hitting 33 and Anya Shrubsole taking 3-27.

In reply, Lauren Winfield (35) and Tammy Beaumont (31) added 66 for the first wicket, before Sarah Taylor and Heather Knight were unbeaten on 48 and 32 respectively, seeing England home in the 31st over.

The eagerly anticipated tournament gets underway in Derby on Saturday 24 June when England take on India, one of eight games to take place in Derby. Tickets for all eight games are on sale now.
