Despite wickets from Imran Tahir and Hamidullah Qadri, Derbyshire lost to Durham by six wickets on the final day of their Specsavers County Championship match at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.
A third first-class century from Alex Hughes on Day Three helped Derbyshire set Durham 282 to win, with the visitors closing on 36-0 overnight.
Jack Burnham finished the final day 93 not out and Ryan Pringle was unbeaten on 62 as Durham hit 285-4, wrapping up a six-wicket win despite wickets for Tahir (2-89) and Qadri (2-91).
Carrying on from a successful 17 overs in the evening session on Day Three, the Durham openers added a further 55 before Cameron Steel was caught behind by Daryn Smit off Qadri for 25.
Michael Richardson (62) was out just three overs later and with both openers dismissed, the momentum swung Derbyshire’s way, Durham 95-2, still requiring a further 187.
The score moved onto 158-4 when Graham Clark (23) and Paul Collingwood (6) were caught by Wayne Madsen, the former off Tahir and the latter off Qadri.
Finely balanced at this point, Burnham and Pringle took the game away from Derbyshire, posting an unbeaten 127 partnership to give Durham victory in the 81st over.
