Wayne Madsen says the squad are delighted with the start Derbyshire has made to the NatWest T20 Blast and insists there is still more to come.

Following the seven-wicket win over reigning champions Northants Steelbacks on Friday, the Falcons put in another fine display to come out on top against local rivals Yorkshire Vikings in a thriller at Chesterfield on Saturday.

Madsen hit 42 before claiming 1-22 with the ball as the Falcons secured victory at Queen’s Park to make it back-to-back wins to start the new competition.

He said: “It’s great to get a couple of wins first up. We have played some good cricket, and I still think there is a lot still in the locker in terms of performance, but with two wins we are delighted with the way we have started.

“When you get to the stage when the game is quite tight, a few nerves start to set in. The biggest thing for us was that we tried to stay as calm as possible when under pressure there at the end. I thought we did that particularly well.

“It’s a buzz when you play in front of a packed crowd. We’re grateful to everyone who turned out to support us and enjoyed such a brilliant game of cricket.”
