Luis Reece has joined his Falcons team-mate Wayne Madsen in the top five of the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player Rankings for the NatWest T20 Blast.
Left-hander Reece plundered a competition-best 97 not out from 55 balls against his former county Lancashire at The 3aaa County Ground on Wednesday 26 July.
Reece contributed 46 per cent of Derbyshire’s runs and earned 24 PCA MVP batting points towards a match haul of 26 points.
He has now climbed to fifth in the T20 rankings with 76 points so far with Madsen second in the table on 124 points.
Madsen had topped the table but was overtaken by Yorkshire’s David Willey who followed his 118 from 55 balls against Worcestershire with 44 runs and a wicket in a haul of 17 rankings points against Durham at Headingley.
The PCA MVP Rankings system identifies the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season.
The formula takes into account conditions, quality of opposition, captaincy and strike-rates as well as runs scored and wickets taken.
Former South Africa seamer Hardus Viljoen is Derbyshire’s third highest-ranked player in the T20 PCA MVP in 49th place with 46 points followed by Billy Godleman (64th), Imran Tahir (77th), Matt Critchley (84th), Matt Henry (98th) and Daryn Smit (99th).
In the overall PCA MVP, which covers all formats, Madsen has moved to 16th on 271 points with Godleman 51st on 200 points, Shiv Thakor 75th, Jeevan Mendis 81st, Reece 90th and Alex Hughes 99th.
Madsen is now 52nd in the list of points-earners across all formats since the PCA MVP system was introduced in 2007 with 2,545.
He is 64th in the all-time County Championship list with 1,442 points, 67th in the all-time 50 overs table and 68th in NatWest T20 Blast cricket.
