Tom Taylor hit a blistering 107 from 115 balls and Harvey Hosein added an unbeaten 85 as Derbyshire Seconds rallied on Day Two against Leicestershire at Kibworth CC.

Starting their innings on the morning of Day Two, Derbyshire quickly slumped to 48-5, largely down to good bowling from Will Fazakerley (4-72) and Dominic Manthorpe (3-54).

Michael Jones (4) was the first of Manthorpe’s three wickets, before he bowled Charlie Macdonell (11) and had Ben Slater caught for 14.

Akhil Patel was lbw to Fazakerley for three and once Rahib Ali followed next ball, the visitors were 48-5 and staring down the barrel of a large first innings deficit.

Hosein looked to steady the innings with Tom Milnes (23), but once the all-rounder was caught by the experienced Mark Pettini off Fazakerley, Derbyshire were reduced to 80-6.

It was at this point Taylor began his 152-run seventh wicket partnership with the Derbyshire wicketkeeper-batsman, adding 79 after tea, taking his tally to 107, including 15 fours and one six.

He was eventually out to Fazakerley, but Hosein, who batted nicely throughout the afternoon, added a further 60 with Greg Cork (30) before the visitors declared on 292-8.

Leicestershire closed 21-0 with a lead of 25 runs going into the third and final day.
