Derbyshire Falcons Captain Gary Wilson was full of praise for his side after they claimed a seven wicket victory at New Road, their third from four games in the NatWest T20 Blast.

The Falcons were set a challenging 187 runs to win in front of the Sky Sports cameras at New Road, but Godleman’s dominant innings, ably supported by Madsen and Matt Critchley (31) powered Derbyshire to victory with ten balls to spare.

The win moves the Falcons to joint top in the North Group on six points after four games.

Speaking to BBC Radio Derby, Gary Wilson said: “I’ll be honest and at half-time I thought it would be a tough chase. They potentially did have enough runs.

“But credit to Billy [Godleman] and Wayne [Madsen] for the way they played. I didn’t actually think they bowled that badly apart from possibly giving Wayne a little bit too much width.

Wilson added: “I knew Wayne was a good player but probably didn’t realise how good he was until I played with him. He has been unbelievable so far in this T20 competition and it was great to see Billy strike the ball the way he did.

“It was some of the cleanest hitting you will see. It was a pretty special innings and we know he has got that in him. It’s a good start for us in the competition but we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves.”

Derbyshire Falcons are next in NatWest T20 Blast action on Friday 21 July when they take on Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge; 6.30pm start.
