Will Davis returned figures of 3-55 for Derbyshire in his first game since recovering from a side strain as the Seconds dismissed Nottinghamshire for 217 on Day One of their Second XI Championship match.

Derbyshire won the toss and elected to field first and got off to the perfect start, opening bowler Gurjit Sandhu removing Jake Libby without scoring. The left arm bowler struck three more times in quick succession, Anuj Dal (3), Chris Gibson (19) and Brett Hutton (18) all lbw as the visitors fell to 44-4.

Into the attack at the first change, Davis struck immediately, bowling wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Keast for 2, before he had Will Fraine lbw three balls later.

Luke Wood hit 57 and Lyndon James added 54 not out as Nottinghamshire recovered and passed 150 before Davis returned and had Wood caught by Matthew Sonczak. Sandhu and Charlie Macdonell reduced the visitors to nine down.

Matthew Milnes frustrated the hosts and added 38 in at 11, before Sonczak wrapped the innings up with the hosts on 217.

Ben Slater (24) shared an opening stand of 52 with Macdonell (26) before Wood bowled the opening pair. James Kettleborough top-scored heading into the close with 32 but he too was bowled by the left arm pace bowler.

Harvey Hosein was unbeaten on four and Akhil Patel not out on six as the hosts closed 110-3.
