Will Davis and Tom Taylor took two wickets apiece against a strong Yorkshire side which closed 289-5 on Day One of a three-day friendly at at Harrogate.

Derbyshire won the toss and elected to field first as James Tattersall and Tom Kohler-Cadmore opened up for Yorkshire, pair putting on 109 for the first wicket until Tattersall was caught by Ben Cotton off Davis (2-58) for 36.

Shortly after, Kohler-Cadmore was caught by Davis off the bowling of Matt Sonczak (1-34) for a well-made 65 and Derbyshire found a foothold in the game.

However, Jack Leaning and Alex Lees rebuilt nicely putting on 62 for the third wicket and taking the hosts towards 200. Davis then had Leaning caught an bowled for 27 and Taylor (2-46) took his two wickets in quick succession, first Tim Bresnan caught by Joss Morgan for seven then George Rhodes caught and bowled for four.

Andrew Hodd made 18 before he retired not out, but Alex Lees (86 not out) and Liam Plunkett (21 not out), guided Yorkshire to 289-5 to leave them in a strong position at the close on the first day.
