In-form Derbyshire batsman Wayne Madsen is looking forward to the opportunity to face local rivals Notts Outlaws to help push for a quarter-final place in the NatWest T20 Blast.

Madsen has secured himself the July PCA Player of the Month award after some exceptional performances in the NatWest T20 Blast, including three half centuries in the competition.

The 33-year-old is excited about the prospect of playing the Outlaws once again and hopes that the crowd will help push Derbyshire across the line.

Madsen said: “The derby is obviously a huge game for us, when the fixtures come out at the start of the season this is the date that you’re looking out for. We always get a fantastic crowd at The 3aaa County Ground who bring an electric atmosphere and it’s certainly a big game you want to perform in.

“We’re just wanting the same sort of crowds we’ve had for the last few games to come down and support us because it does make a massive difference to us on the field. It’s always a huge boost for us as players and we’re going to try and put on a good performance for everyone who comes down.”

The previous meeting between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire was a spectacular one, with over 400 runs scored in both innings, with the Falcons falling just five runs short.

Madsen contributed an impressive 86 not out in that fixture and despite the defeat, he was proud of his sides performance but is also even more determined to make it a win at home.

Madsen said “We narrowly missed out in the reserve fixture earlier in the season and we we’re proud of the way we performed, chasing down such a big total. We gave it a good go but unfortunately, we couldn’t get across the line, but in this game, we’ll be looking to make amends and chalk up a win.

“It was quiet a bitter sweet day really, in terms of overall performance with both bat and ball, we’ve continued to improve during the competition so far so as a team we are in a better place going into this game and we’re relishing the opportunity to play Notts again.”
