Wayne Madsen says he hopes the Falcons can carry the momentum from Friday night’s win into Tuesday’s NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final versus Hampshire.

The 32-year-old hit 55 off 42 balls as Derbyshire beat Worcestershire by 48-runs on Friday at The 3aaa County Ground to seal their place in the last eight.

Madsen said: “I actually thought we were 20 or 25 short and we knew we had to bowl really well and that’s exactly what we did. We set the tone up front and early wickets were crucial because they’ve got some dangerous players in their top order and then Imran Tahir did his magic.

“We took our chances and we’ve been consistent through the competition and I think tonight just showed that from a bowling perspective the guys put their hands up when we were really under pressure and made it count.”

On reaching the quarter-finals he said: “I’ve been waiting nine years for this. It means the world and hopefully it’s just the start and we’ve got a few more big games to come.

“To pick up eight wins out of 14 has been an outstanding achievement and hopefully we can continue that in the quarter-final.”
