Falcons’ leading run-scorer Wayne Madsen will have to wait to discover whether he has done enough to finish top of this season’s PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings for NatWest T20 Blast.
Madsen currently heads the competition’s rankings table with 211 points but his hopes of adding to his total were ended by a heavy defeat at the hands of Hampshire in the quarter-finals.
Although Madsen is 25 points clear at the top of the table four players in the top ten will have the opportunity to add to their tally and overtake him on Finals Day at Edgbaston on September 2.
Glamorgan’s former South Africa all-rounder Colin Ingram, who has already finished top of the Royal London One Day Cup rankings, is in second place but Hampshire captain James Vince, sixth on 155 points, and the Nottinghamshire pair of Samit Patel, fifth on 163 points, and Alex Hales, eighth on 152 points, could also go top on Finals Day.
Madsen ended the campaign with 526 runs, including nine scores of 30 or more, and 13 wickets at an economy rate of 7.36.
The PCA MVP Rankings system identifies the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season.
The formula takes into account conditions, quality of opposition, captaincy and strike-rates, as well as runs, scored and wickets taken.
Captain Billy Godleman is Derbyshire’s highest-ranked player in the four-day PCA MVP in 58th place with 115 points in the competition followed by Jeevan Mendis (61st) and Tony Palladino (79th).
Madsen is seventh in the overall PCA MVP with 367 points in all formats this season, 93 behind leader Samit Patel.
Godleman is Derbyshire’s next best-placed player in 56th position on 235 points with Luis Reece 82nd and Alex Hughes 95th.
