Derbyshire off-spinner Hamidullah Qadri made his England Under 19s debut in the side’s loss to a strong India team in the Royal London One-Day Cup series.

16-year-old Qadri caught the eye of England selectors when he took five wickets on debut for the Club in the Specsavers County Championship victory over Glamorgan. He followed this up with three wickets against Durham and was rewarded with a call-up to the national side.

England won the toss and elected to bat first and Liam Trevaskis top-scored with 35 before he was bowled by Indian spinner Anukul Roy who finished with figures of 4-27.

Qadri added nine runs before he was out lbw to Abhishek Sharma (2-35) as England were all out for 175.

India’s opening batsmen batted well in putting on 110 for the first wicket until Captain Prithvi Shaw was caught off the bowling of Will Jacks (1-20) for 48.

Himanshu Rana was caught on 78 as Ben Allison (1-17) took his first wicket for England, but Shubman Gill, who was unbeaten on 38, guided India to victory.

Qadri bowled nicely and although he was unable to find a breakthrough he finished with figures of 0-40 from his seven overs as a defiant India claimed an eight-wicket victory with 100 balls to spare.
