Tuesday 1st August 2017
Written by Danny Painter

Tom Taylor performed well with the ball, but Derbyshire Second XI were beaten in back-to-back Twenty20 fixtures by a strong Yorkshire side in tough conditions at Alvaston & Boulton Cricket Club.

In the first game Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bowl and impressive bowling efforts from Taylor (3-19) and Hamidullah Qadri (2-14) saw the visitors bowled out for 158.

Derbyshire opened with Ben Slater and Tom Wood (13) but an early breakthrough from Matthew Fisher (1-34) sparked a flurry of wickets for Yorkshire.

Man of the match James Wainman came into the attack and took of 4-21 from 3.1 overs including the key wicket of Harvey Hosein (30). Jack Shutt also took four wickets and although Tom Milnes finished unbeaten on 22, the hosts fell short of their target by 23 runs after being bowled out for 136.

For the second game opening batsman Charlie Macdonell was introduced into the side replacing the bowling option of James Taylor.

The second fixture was rain affected and reduced to 15 overs per side, Derbyshire won the toss and decided to bat sending out Macdonell (10) and Wood (8) to open.

Hosein added seven whilst Slater and Brodrick offered ten runs apiece, and Milnes was unbeaten on 12 as Derbyshire posted 75-5 from 15 overs.

Further rain meant Yorkshire needed to chase 66 from 11 overs and an early breakthrough from Taylor (1-13) dismissing Alex Lees for two caught and bowled gave Derbyshire hope.

But Ben Birkhead (37 not out) and James Tattersall (unbeaten on 23) chased down the target in the eighth over.
