Derbyshire added 165 runs and took seven wickets to leave them in a strong position after Day Two of their Second XI Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Swarkestone CC.

Resuming on Day Two with the score 110-3, Derbyshire pressed home their early advantage with Harvey Hosein (69) taking the attack to a strong Nottinghamshire bowling attack. Akhil Patel added 46 with the wicketkeeper-batsman until he was run out for 19.

Nils Priestley (5) and Tom Milnes (2) were out quickly, but Jack Redman (24) stayed with Hosein and the pair added 55, taking Derbyshire past 200. Hosein was eventually out for a well-made 69, lbw to Brett Hutton and after Matthew Sonczak added 29, the hosts were all out for 275.

With a first innings lead of 58, Derbyshire struck early in the Nottinghamshire reply, Chris Gibson (15) and Jake Libby (26) both out before the visitors went in front. The third wicket fell with the score 59-3, Hutton caught behind by Hosein off Greg Cork without scoring.

Anuj Dal added 31, but Derbyshire continued to take wickets at regular intervals and soon Nottinghamshire were 94-7, Charlie Macdonell picking up two wickets, and Cork finishing the day with two wickets for just three runs in his five overs.

Nottinghamshire will resume the final day on 102-7, with a lead of 44 as Derbyshire aim to claim victory in the Second XI Championship.
