The 2018 season may be four months away, but the Derbyshire squad have been put through their paces in a series of fitness sessions in preparation for the new campaign.
The players returned to training at The 3aaa County Ground at the end of October and Lead Physiotherapist Fran Clarkson has been working with the team, alongside Strength & Conditioning Coach Jonty Norris.
Clarkson said: “The lads have been in for over a month now and they’ve been working hard on the strength programme which has been set by Jonty. We’ve also started them on prehab cycles where they work on core areas of the body in the morning.
“These are things we’ve identified as potential issues from last year, so we’re trying to use the pre-season to build on those particular areas for the whole squad.”
Clarkson added: “They’ll have trained for a six week period up to Christmas and it’s all been about strength, fitness, speed and physio work. We’ll retest now and then kick forward after Christmas.
“The work they do in these off-season months is when it counts. You see it in their performances, with improved speed, power or stability. Also by making the players stronger and more resilient, they are more resilient to smaller injuries and the harder they work now, the easier it should be during the summer.”
