DerbyshireTV spoke to batsman Ben Slater to get his thoughts on some of the standout fixtures of the 2018 season, including T20 Blast local derbies and the season opener in Derby.
Derbyshire begin the domestic season with the visit of Middlesex to The 3aaa County Ground in the Specsavers County Championship. Starting on Friday 20 April, it will be the first time the two sides have met since 2013.
Slater said: “All of the lads will be raring to go by the time that game comes around in April. Last time we played them at home, we beat them with a very young side in my first year. I’ve got good memories from playing Middlesex here, so hopefully we can replicate what we did back in 2013.”
A run of four Specsavers County Championship matches are followed by the Royal London One-Day Cup, before Derbyshire turn their attention to the T20 Blast, starting with Lancashire Lightning and then onto back-to-back derbies against Yorkshire Vikings and Notts Outlaws later in July.
He added: “Personally I’ll be looking forward to the Royal London One-Day Cup after a good couple of seasons. As a team we’ll be looking to kick on from performances over the last couple of years and be more consistent.
“We’ve got a good record against Lancashire in the T20 Blast, especially when we play them here it always seems to be full. The atmosphere will be good and with it being the first one I’m sure it will be packed out and it’ll be nice to get that competition underway after how well we did last year.”
