Impressive performances in the recent T10 League and Ram Slam T20 Challenge have earned fast bowler Hardus Viljoen a place in the Multan Sultans’ squad for the Pakistan Super League.

The third edition of the Twenty20 competition gets underway in February and Viljoen, who took 14 wickets for Derbyshire in the T20 Blast last summer, will join up with the tournament’s newest franchise.

Led by Captain Shoaib Malik, the strong Sultans squad also features all-rounder Kieron Pollard, former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara and Viljoen’s Derbyshire teammate in 2017, Imran Tahir.

The six teams will play a double round robin format, before play offs to decide the winners. Viljoen’s Sultans will face reigning champions Peshawar Zalmi in the opening fixture on Thursday 22 February in Dubai.

With the final to be held in Karachi on Sunday 25 March, the fearsome quick will return to Derby in April, ahead of the domestic season opener versus Middlesex at The 3aaa County Ground, starting on Friday 20 April.
