Wayne Madsen says he is constantly evolving his technique and honing his skills in search of another successful summer in the Vitality Blast.
After topping the PCA Most Valuable Player rankings in the game’s shortest form last summer, the powerful hitter and off-spinner is keen to put in the work to have another successful campaign in 2018.
Madsen said: “It’s important to keep honing skills and keep developing our games as we go into the season because there’s not a lot of preparation time during the season before the competition starts.
“We have to prepare over the winter to get ourselves up to speed and then before the Vitality Blast starts we’ll have a bit of time to hone our skills again.
“Everything came together in 2017. It wasn’t a change in technique, but more a case of evolving it to work on scoring areas and where I’m looking to hit the ball.
“It’s been a lot of hard work over the past few years, not just with myself but the whole team, and it really came together last summer and we feel that momentum going into 2018.”
Record crowds of over 24,000 spectators watched Derbyshire in Twenty20 action last summer across the county, and the all-rounder hopes to see big crowds again and put in more strong performances for supporters.
He added: “We were spurred on by the crowds last year and we hope to see more great crowds coming down to support us again this season. Hopefully we can achieve what we did last season and do even better and entertain the supporters who come to watch us.”
