Openers make unbeaten start before rain

Tuesday 10th April 2018
Written by Danny Painter

Openers Ben Slater and Luis Reece put on an unbeaten stand of 147 in the first innings of the Second XI friendly versus Warwickshire, before rain at Edgbaston halted play.

After being put in to bat, Slater (89 not out) hit the first half-century for the Club this summer, reaching the landmark off 58 balls, with nine fours. Reece (43 not out) also took to the challenging conditions, and the pair were unbeaten when heavy rain brought an end to the day shortly after lunch.

No play was possible on Day Two, as further overnight rain left certain areas of the outfield unfit. The friendly heads into its final day tomorrow with both sides hoping to continue competitive pre-season cricket.

Derbyshire then get the 2018 season underway with a three-day non first-class university fixture versus Leeds/Bradford MCCU at Weetwood, scheduled to start on Friday 13 April.

The Club begin their new Specsavers County Championship campaign the following week versus Middlesex at The 3aaa County Ground, commencing on Friday 20 April, 11am start.
