Trialist Charlie Hartley took 5-62, while Hamidullah Qadri claimed three wickets, as Derbyshire Second XI beat Nottinghamshire by 63 runs on the final day at Lady Bay.

Set 351 to win off 80 overs, following declarations from both sides, the hosts were dismissed for 287 after 53 overs with fast bowler Hartley leading the way with five wickets.

The day started with Derbyshire declaring on their overnight score of 419-4, with Ben Slater unbeaten on 221 and Daryn Smit 101 not out.

In the attempt to set up a result, Nottinghamshire declared on 69-1 off 13.1 overs, before Derbyshire forfeited their second innings to set the hosts a final day run chase.

Hartley struck twice early into the innings, removing opener Gibson (0) and Billy Root (8) to reduce Nottinghamshire to 28-2 in the fifth over.

Budinger (44) and Perera (24) responded well with a 72-run partnership, but it was broken by Qadri who removed both batsman in quick succession as Derbyshire took control.

It was then Hartley’s turn to take centre stage as he claimed three wickets in three overs to reduce Nottinghamshire to 188-8 and complete his five-wicket haul, finishing with 5-62 off 13 overs.

There was some late resistance from Leverock (65 not out), before Qadri (3-40) returned to take the final wicket as Derbyshire started the new Second XI Championship campaign with victory.
