Tall, adept and a wicket-taker at international level, Derbyshire has signed Scotland fast bowler Safyaan Sharif for both white ball competitions this summer.
Sharif, who arrives hungry to take wickets after a successful ICC World Cup Qualifier campaign, will be available for the first seven Royal London One-Day Cup matches and the whole of the Vitality Blast campaign.
He brings craft and experience to The 3aaa County Ground with 59 white-ball matches under his belt for his country. Renowned for his variation and ability to bowl at the death, Sharif adds another dimension to the Derbyshire pace attack.
The 26-year-old has become an influential figure for Cricket Scotland after recently being named the rising star of Scotland’s squad by the International Cricket Council. Making his T20 international debut in 2012, Sharif has taken 28 wickets at an impressive average of 21.78 to add to his One-Day International exploits of 53 wickets in just 35 matches.
Sharif was recently named player of the match in Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe following his impressive bowling display of 5-33 from only 8.4 overs. He was also the joint leading wicket-taker in the qualifying tournament with 17 wickets at an average of 13.94.
He now hopes to bring that form to Derby and looks forward to the Royal London One-Day Cup group stages and joins an experienced bowling attack alongside the likes of Hardus Viljoen, Duanne Olivier and Ravi Rampaul.
