Matt Critchley took 3-63, but Day Two at Edgbaston was dominated by the Warwickshire batsmen as they closed on 375-6, with a lead of 57 runs.
Nightwatchman Chris Wright and opener Will Rhodes frustrated Derbyshire in the opening session to typify the day’s play as Warwickshire gained the early advantage.
Critchley claimed three wickets, but runs throughout the order, most notably from Wright (72), Jonathan Trott (76) and Matthew Lamb (79 not out) took Warwickshire into the lead on 375-6, 57 first innings runs in front.
