Safyaan Sharif was delighted to make a contribution on his Derbyshire debut as the county made a winning start to the new Royal London One-Day Cup campaign.
The fast bowler, who has joined the county for both white ball competitions this summer, took 2-31 as Derbyshire beat Warwickshire by 57 runs in a high-scoring encounter at Edgbaston.
The Scotland international savoured his first outing for the Club and hopes he can continue to make a positive impact for the rest of the competition.
He said: “I really enjoyed my debut and it was great that the team started with a win. We got a good total on the board and then the way Olivier opened the bowling and got the two wickets to put them under pressure was really important.
“Then we maintained the pressure and contained them really well during the middle period and picked up wickets along the way which is really important. That made it easier for us to finish the game off at the end.
“Now we will go to Worcestershire and try to play as well as that again. Hopefully I will be selected and get the chance to contribute with ball and bat.
“To get a good win and for me to pick up two wickets is a great way to start. I feel a little bit more settled now and hopefully the next game will be easier for me.
“I think there are a lot of players in the Scotland squad capable of playing county cricket. In the past, not many have, but you can learn a lot playing at this standard and improve your game so it is definitely worth having guys playing in county sides.
“Playing against this standard of players can only make you improve.”
