Supporters can now vote for the Showcase Cinema de Lux Player of the Month for April.

Each month this season, supporters can cast their vote for their Player of the Month, with voting taking place on the Club’s official Twitter account; @DerbyshireCCC.

For the month of April, we have selected four nominees; Hardus Viljoen, Luis Reece, Duanne Olivier and Ben Slater.

The month included two Specsavers County Championship fixtures and an unbeaten start to the season for Derbyshire, with a win over Middlesex and a draw at Leicestershire.

Player of the Month: April Nominees

Hardus Viljoen

The fearsome South Africa quick has contributed with both bat and ball in both of Derbyshire’s opening Specsavers County Championship fixtures.

In the opening match over Middlesex, Viljoen struck and unbeaten 60 with the bat, his highest score in a Derbyshire shirt. He hit four sixes, including three in one over, in the match-defining knock. He backed this up with a quickfire 43 off 33 balls against Leicestershire to help the county towards a second bonus batting point.

He has also claimed five wickets in the opening two matches at an average of 29.

Luis Reece

The opener began the season in spectacular fashion with an unbeaten 157 in the second innings versus Middlesex to set Derbyshire on their way to victory.

His innings of over six and a half hours included 10 fours and one six to give Derbyshire the platform to take the 10 Middlesex wickets needed for victory.

After dedicated work on his bowling over the winter, the all-rounder was rewarded with the first three wickets of the Leicestershire first innings at Grace Road, finishing with 3-64 off 16 overs.

Duanne Olivier

The tall South Africa international claimed eight wickets on his Derbyshire debut against Middlesex, taking 4-26 and 4-82 – with match figures of 8-108 – in the match-winning performance.

He ended the month as Derbyshire’s leading wicket taker with nine at an average of 22.44.

Ben Slater

The Chesterfield-born opener has started the season brightly and hit 99 in a record opening stand with Reece worth 219 against Middlesex. He also hit 32 in the first innings of the same fixture and added 27 in the only innings against Leicestershire.

Continuing from a fine pre-season, in which the 26-year-old hit an unbeaten 221 in the Second XI victory over Nottinghamshire, Slater averaged 53 in the Specsavers County Championship in April.
