Gary Wilson believes Derbyshire can do something special this season, but the county must continue to back up their good performances week on week.
Wilson hit an unbeaten 64 to help Derbyshire secure two batting bonus points and take 10 points in total from the rain-affected draw at Leicestershire.
The result moves Derbyshire up to second in Division Two, one point behind early leaders Warwickshire who are the county’s next opponents, starting on Thursday.
Wilson said: “There was some good hard cricket played once we were able to get out there and those extra points might be important at the end of the season.
“Credit to Leicestershire for the way they came and played, it was freezing out there today, and 21 points between the two sides was a very good effort.
“It was nice to spend a bit of time in the middle and by the end I felt I was hitting the ball well. It’s a good solid start to the season, and I believe we can do something special this season, but we have to keep backing it up week on week.
“We could be on the verge of something good, not just with our overseas bowlers but with the young guys like Matt Critchley and Alex Hughes coming good.
“We’re not worried who we play – there’s very little between the sides in this division.”
