Explosive, powerful and with international experience, Derbyshire has signed top-order batsman Calum MacLeod for this summer’s Vitality Blast.

The UK qualified Scotland international will join up with the Falcons ahead of this year’s Vitality Blast and offer entertainment at the top of the order with powerful striking and and a boundary-hitting mentality.

29-year-old MacLeod was Scotland’s leading run-scorer in the recent ICC World Cup Qualifier 2018, with 288 runs across six innings, with an average of 57.60 and a top-score of 157 not out.

His unbeaten knock came as Scotland chased down 256 to beat the much-fancied Afghanistan, an innings in which the right-hander hit 23 fours and one six at above a run a ball to give his side a seven-wicket win.

In total, he has played 57 ODI matches for Scotland, with a top-score of 175 and an average of 35.

Just this week, the batsman hit his seventh ODI century when he struck an unbeaten 140 in the victory against England at Edinburgh.

Known for his ability to score quickly in the game’s shortest forms, MacLeod has featured in 74 Twenty20 matches in his career to date, including 28 representing Scotland.

MacLeod also brings with him plenty of limited overs domestic experience in England, having represented Durham and Warwickshire.

Across his 74 Twenty20 appearances, the strong hitter has scored 1,867 runs at an average of 29.17, with one century as well as 12 scores of 50 or more.

With a Twenty20 strike rate of 126, he now looks forward to a Vitality Blast campaign with Derbyshire, aiming to add firepower to the top order, alongside the likes of Wayne Madsen and Matt Critchley.

Welcome to Derbyshire, Calum.
