All-rounder Wayne Madsen hopes he can replicate last summer’s Vitality Blast form again as the Club go in search for a first ever Finals Day appearance.

The 34-year-old was the competition’s top-performer last year, with 526 runs and 13 wickets to earn the coveted Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player award.

Although pleased with his contributions and the team’s performances throughout the group stages, Madsen is targeting a maiden Finals Day appearance and believes the squad is well-set to compete.

He said: “I was extremely proud with what I achieved in the Blast, especially in a successful campaign. To be able to contribute like that was pretty special.

“I obviously set out to do well, but that exceeded expectations for me and it was a lot down to the way we played as a team as well.”

Madsen added: “To reach Finals Day and win that Twenty20 trophy would be a special achievement.

“We’ve shown now that we can mix it with the best teams and last year we made great strides as a unit.

“We’ll be looking to continue that this year and take it one step further. We certainly have the talent and capabilities in the squad to do that.

“We made some really exciting signings to go with the guys we have here. We’re pretty confident and looking forward to the competition.”

Derbyshire get their Vitality Blast campaign underway with the visit of Lancashire Lightning to The 3aaa County Ground on Friday 6 July.
