Written by Danny Painter

Derbyshire have named a 13-man squad for the final home Royal London One-Day Cup fixture of the group stages, against Lancashire on Sunday 3 June, 11am start.

The Falcons head into the fixture top of the Royal London One-Day Cup North Group on eight points after six games. With two other teams on eight and two on seven points, the Falcons will be aiming for victory to help their quest to secure a top-three finish.

Luis Reece remains unavailable, having been ruled out of the remainder of Derbyshire’s Royal London One-Day Cup group stage matches with a broken metatarsal in his right foot.

Billy Godleman hit an unbeaten 125 in the 51-run win over Northants Steelbacks last time out and heads into the clash with Lancashire having scored 430 runs at an average of 86.

Fellow opener Ben Slater has struck 335 runs, including 94 at Northants, at an average of 67 and with three scores of 50 or more.

Graham Onions and Joe Mennie are set the lead the seam attack, whilst Stephen Parry and Matt Parkinson provide spin options.

Pre-Match Talk

Billy Godleman hopes the Falcons can continue improving and execute their skills to get closer to a knockout place with victory over the Lightning.

Derbyshire put in a professional and well-managed performance to earn a 51-run win over Northants Steelbacks and the 29-year-old wants his side to take that form into Sunday’s crucial game.

He said: “Hopefully we can do it in this next game. We enjoy playing cricket at home and have had a couple of good wins at home.

“We enjoy the games coming thick and fast and the guys will recover then come strong on Sunday.

“Not just this season, but over the last 24 months in white ball cricket, we have proven we’re a dangerous team and can beat anyone on our day.

“We need to play somewhere between 90 and 100 per cent and thankfully we’ve been able to do that and that’s the plan again for Sunday.”
