James Sykes claimed a five-wicket haul as Derbyshire took control on Day Two of their Second XI Championship match against Durham.
The slow left-arm bowler took 5-73 from his 27 overs as the hosts declared on 234-7 after Will Davis had hit 99 on the opening day to help Derbyshire to a total of 362 at Burnopfield CC.
After closing on 300-7 on day one, Sykes also made a short cameo of 31 as Derbyshire added 62 runs to the overnight total.
Durham lost wickets at regular intervals throughout the innings as Liam Trevaskis top scored with 47 before the home side declared in an attempt to force a result.
Openers James Kettleborough (16) and Brown (21) both hit boundaries before losing their wickets as Derbyshire closed on 68-2 with Anuj Dal (8 not out) and Tom Wood (19 not out) unbeaten at overnight.
