It’s only three weeks away, so here are some friendly tips to help you prepare for the Cricket Derbyshire Foundation’s T20 Walkathon.

Twenty miles is challenging, so make sure that you prepare. You are advised to walk as much as you can now. Take the stairs, walk to the shops – the Walkathon is a great way to maintain and improve fitness.

We advise that those wishing to participate walk 2-4 times a week across low gradient tracks in preparation. The route follows roadside, riverside and cycle paths throughout its duration and has no great declines or ascensions.

The T20 Walkathon will see fundraisers walk 20 miles from Trent Bridge, Nottingham, to The 3aaa County Ground, Derby, on Friday 13 July ahead of the Vitality Blast derby between Derbyshire Falcons and Notts Outlaws (7pm start, approx. 9.45pm finish).

All walkers will receive bus travel to Trent Bridge, donated by Trent Barton, for the start of the walk, a sponsored walk t-shirt and an event pack. The registration fee, of £25, also includes safety stewards for the journey, ticket for the Vitality Blast match and on arrival in Derby a hog roast roll and complimentary drink, courtesy of Greene King.

Companies, meanwhile, are invited to submit one or more teams of four staff members to represent them in the Rock Fall Team Challenge, at £100 for a team of four.

All proceeds raised will go to the CDF (Charity No. 1155801) and will support the delivery of a range of community projects to young people across the county, using the power of sport.

CDF Trustee, Rachel Hudson said: “Everyone praised the event last year, it was encouraging to hear that people found the walk to be such a pleasant experience they could share with friends and colleagues.

“We hope that through the implementation of the Rock Fall Challenge we can add a new dimension of fun and competition to the event.”
