Supporters can now vote for the Showcase Cinema de Lux Player of the Month for May.

Each month this season, supporters can cast their vote for their Player of the Month, with voting taking place on the Club’s official Twitter account; @DerbyshireCCC.

For the month of May, we have selected four nominees; Ben Slater, Billy Godleman, Luis Reece and Duanne Olivier.

The month included two Specsavers County Championship fixtures and five Royal London One-Day Cup matches.

Player of the Month: May Nominees

Ben Slater

The Derbyshire opener has enjoyed a fruitful start to the 2018 summer in both the Specsavers County Championship and the early stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup competition.

He struck 181 runs across Derbyshire’s two first-class fixtures in May and has since carried that form into the One-Day Cup, where he averaged 60 in the opening five games. In total, he has scored 241 runs in the One-Day Cup in May.

Albeit it in a losing cause, the 26-year-old hit an unbeaten 109 in Derbyshire’s last Royal London One-Day Cup game, contributing over half of the runs, with 13 fours and one six.

Billy Godleman

Similar to fellow opener Slater, the Club Captain was in fine touch throughout May, including a career-best against Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

The left-hander hit 137 off 116 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes as he powered Derbyshire to victory in the opening game of the competition.

He continued this form into the following four List A games and after five matches had scored 305 runs at an average of 61 and with three scores above 50.

Luis Reece

Before suffering a broken metatarsal in the final game of the month, all-rounder Luis Reece had been prevalent with bat and ball throughout May.

The 27-year old hit 174 runs in the Royal London One-Day Cup, including a career-best 92 versus Durham, to add to his 62 against Worcestershire.

As well as averaging 43.50 with the bat, the left-armer took eight wickets at an average of 18 and an economy rate of 5.14, proving himself to be a reliable option with the ball in List A cricket, capable of breaking partnerships and keeping the run-rate low.

Duanne Olivier

The South Africa quick, who joined Derbyshire for the first three months of the season, continued his early wicket-taking form into both Specsavers County Championship matches and the early Royal London One-Day Cup fixtures in May.

Olivier claimed seven wickets in the two four-day matches last month and has adapted well to List A cricket in the Royal London One-Day Cup, with seven wickets in the opening five matches.

He has been the most economical of Derbyshire’s bowlers in the 50-over competition, going at 4.69 runs per over and taking a wicket on average every 22 runs.
