Paceman Lockie Ferguson says Derbyshire can take a lot of confidence from the back-to-back Vitality Blast wins against Yorkshire Vikings.

Wayne Madsen hit a rapid 66, while Alex Hughes, Hardus Viljoen and Ferguson claimed three wickets apiece as the Falcons beat Yorkshire by 77 runs on Monday night.

It was a second win over the Vikings in three days after the nail-biting last over victory at Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon – and a fourth win in a row for Gary Wilson’s side.

Ferguson hailed the Derbyshire batsmen after the Falcons posted 179-7 off 17 overs in a rain-reduced match. It was then over to the bowlers who took early wickets before going on to dismiss the hosts for 102 at Emerald Headingley.

Ferguson said: “It was quite important after our batters batted so well to get early wickets.

“With our attack, we have four pretty quick fast bowlers and it’s nice to see someone different each game doing the job. It was Ravi [Rampaul] on Saturday with a four-fer, but then here he only bowled one over which shows our depth.

“It’s very pleasing to get the result.

“I think 10 an over was about par on that wicket in a reduced game. It was a nice wicket to bowl on with good carry. It’s one of those wickets if you get a good start you can post a big total.

“It’s one of those things in Twenty20, if you get early wickets you can swing things in your favour, which we did.

He added: “A lot of Twenty20 campaigns I’ve played in, it’s not how you start it’s how you finish. Having said that, starting with four losses is never easy.

“But we can now take a lot of confidence from how we are playing and after beating a quality Yorkshire side both at Chesterfield and here.

“We’re taking it game by game, which is good when you have a captain like Gary [Wilson] and the coaches we have with John [Wright], Grant [Bradburn] and Dominic [Cork]. Just having those guys around is great.

“We are just trying to improve in every game and if we do that we should be in good position by the end of the campaign.”
