Wickets tumble in Second XI Championship

Tuesday 21st August 2018
Written by Danny Painter

Visitors Leicestershire will take a 10-run lead into Day Two of the Second XI Championship match at Queen’s Park as 16 wickets fell on the opening day.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Derbyshire found it tough going and were soon 67-4 as James Kettleborough top-scored with 34.

The middle order showed some resistance, but regular wickets across the Leicestershire bowling unit saw Derbyshire dismissed for 158.

The visitors started their innings brightly at Queen’s Park, Sam Evans quickly reaching his half-century after opening the batting.

Tom Brett and Sam Conners each claimed two wickets, but Evans was unbeaten on 77 at the close, as Leicestershire ended the day on 168-6.
