The Cricket Derbyshire Foundation (CDF), in conjunction with the Erewash Museum in Ilkeston, is holding an exhibition throughout October showcasing items of memorabilia and artefacts, including photographs about cricket in Derbyshire.
The exhibition will present a host of items collected as part of the CDF’s Heritage Project and will showcase cricket in Derbyshire.
Local people will also get the opportunity to “Show and Tell”, bringing their own artefacts and photographs, and, if they wish, share their memories and recollections of the game of cricket with our staff and volunteers.
The CDF aims to use the power of sport to educate, motivate and inspire children, young people and adults living in Derbyshire whatever their age, gender, religion or ability, making a lasting and positive impact on individuals’ lives.
In line with one of the Foundation’s objectives; “To advance education for the public benefit in the history and heritage of cricket in Derbyshire” over the last 18 months, we have been undertaking an exciting Heritage Lottery Funded project, capturing on video, memories and recollections from people with a story to tell about cricket in Derbyshire.
Almost 200 recordings have been captured to date, and these are in the process of being made available on the CDF’s YouTube channel.
The exhibition will take place in The Mining Room at the Erewash Museum and is free to enter.
Available to view will be a selection of photographs dating from the late 19th century to the present day, plus documents, artefacts, trophies, bats, scorecards, clothing, tickets, books and newspapers, many of which have never been on public display before.
