All-rounder Mattie McKiernan has signed a contract with Derbyshire for the 2019 season.

The leg-spinner will join up with the Derbyshire squad in March ahead of the new season.

The 24-year-old made his Vitality Blast debut for the Club this summer after impressing for the Second XI.

In nine Second XI Twenty20 matches, McKiernan claimed 16 wickets at an average of 12.31, with best figures of 3-15 and an economy rate of 5.62.

He also featured in one Second XI Championship fixture, scoring 143 runs with a top-score of 85 and taking one wicket.

Cricket Advisory Director, Colin Tunnicliffe said: “Mattie impressed everyone this year with his performances for the Second XI and he did well when called upon in the Vitality Blast.

“He’s a talented spin bowler who will give us additional options in this department next season.”
