Vote for your Player of the Month for August

Supporters can now vote for the Showcase Cinema de Lux Player of the Month for August.

Each month, supporters can cast their vote for their Player of the Month, with voting taking place on the Club’s official Twitter account; @DerbyshireCCC.

For the month of July, we have selected four nominees; Billy Godleman, Wayne Madsen, Alex Hughes and Hardus Viljoen. The month included five Vitality Blast matches and two Specsavers County Championship fixture, away at Sussex and at home versus Kent.

Player of the Month: August Nominees

Billy Godleman
The opening batsman hit 385 runs in four Vitality Blast and four Specsavers County Championship innings in August, at an average of 48.12.

The Club Captain ended the Twenty20 campaign well, hitting 152 runs in his last four innings including a career-best 77 against Northamptonshire at The 3aaa County Ground.

He continued his good form into the four-day competition as he hit his first century of the summer in the match at Hove. The opener hit 122 off 196 balls, including 14 fours and one six.

He backed this up with 97 runs in the match against Kent at Derby at the end of the month.

Alex Hughes
The all-rounder scored 212 runs at an average of 30.28 and claimed seven wickets in August.

Hughes took a record-equalling 17 wicket in the Vitality Blast this summer – the joint most ever by a Derbyshire bowler in a single campaign. He took five wickets in the final five matches, with best figures of 2-26.

He ended the campaign with a bowling average of 19.05 and an economy rate of just over eight.

The Academy graduate hit 179 runs in the month’s two four-day matches at an average of 44.75, with a top score of 77. He also took 2-58 against Kent.

Hardus Viljoen
The tall fast bowler claimed 14 wickets in August, with best figures of 3-25 in the Vitality Blast match at Worcestershire Rapids.

The quick ended the Vitality Blast competition with 13 wickets at an average of 20.76 and an economy rate of 7.71 – with his best figures coming against the Rapids at New Road.

He followed this up with seven wickets in the two four-day matches, with best figures of 3-97 against Sussex.

Wayne Madsen
The top-order batsman hit 251 runs in August at an average of 31.37, with a top score of 93 against Kent at The 3aaa County Ground.

Madsen ended the Vitality Blast as the county’s leading run scorer with 328 runs at an average of 32.80, with a top score of 76 not out. He scored 81 runs in four innings in August.

The batsman went on to score 170 runs in the two four-day matches this month at an average of 42.50 – falling just short of a 29th career century in fixture against Kent.

He is currently the leading run scorer in Division Two with 875 runs at an average of 46.05, hitting two centuries and six half-centuries this campaign.
