Former England batsman, Alan Butcher, will be the guest speaker at the Derbyshire Cricket Society’s first lunch event of the winter, on Thursday 25 October.

The former international, who also captained both Surrey and Glamorgan, scored 22,667 first-class runs averaging 36.32, with 46 centuries.

In List A cricket he made 9,169 runs with an average of 31.43. Alan was selected and played for England once and also played one limited overs match for his country.

This was followed by coaching spells at Essex and Surrey, for whom he made a brief playing comeback in 1998 at the age of 44, and then the Zimbabwe national team.

The latter experiences are described by Alan as ‘quite eye opening’ and have been chronicled in his book ‘The Good Murungu’, which was shortlisted for both the Cricket Society and MCC Book of the Year in 2017.

He will speak at the Derbyshire Cricket Society Lunch on Thursday 25 October in the Legends Lounge of the Elite Performance Centre at The 3aaa County Ground, starting at 12pm. The deadline for booking is Thursday 17 October.
