Pre-Match Pack: Leeds/Bradford MCCU

Derbyshire has named a 12-man squad for the three-day first-class fixture against Leeds/Bradford MCCU at The Pattonair County Ground, starting on Tuesday 26 March; 10.30am.

Billy Godleman captains a strong side in Derbyshire’s first match of the season, with Wayne Madsen and Luis Reece to support Godleman at the top of the order.

Reece will be aiming to make up for lost time following a metatarsal injury which saw him miss the majority of the 2018 season, while Madsen enters his 11th season with the club.

All-rounders Alex Hughes and Matt Critchley slot into the middle order, while Ravi Rampaul adds experience to a youthful bowling attack. The experienced West Indies international has taken over 220 wickets in his first-class career with best figures of 7-51.

Sam Conners is in line to make his debut for the club after signing his first professional contact with Derbyshire and impressing in training during the winter.

Opposition

The University team arrive at The Pattonair County Ground for a maiden first-class fixture between the two sides.

They will be led by captain Angus Dahl and have a number of Second XI appearances between them, including Dahl who has represented Surrey Second XI as recently as last summer.

Pre-Match Talk

Logan van Beek is looking forward to getting his season started with Derbyshire after arriving at The Pattonair County Ground.

The 28-year-old all-rounder has joined Derbyshire for the whole of the 2019 season and is hoping to make an impact, contribute to wins for his new club and get himself in contention for further international recognition.

Van Beek said: “It’s non-stop cricket in county cricket, but it’s nice to put on the Derbyshire kit ready to get into it.

“It’s really good to meet the guys and the staff. It’s going to be a big year of learning, but I want to contribute with performances on the field.
