Sam Conners took 3-55 and hit 51 from 43 balls to inspire Derbyshire to a two-wicket victory over Lancashire in the Second XI One-Day Trophy at Ticknall CC.
James Taylor also took 2-31 as each of Derbyshire’s bowling unit took a wicket, whilst Daryn Smit notched an unbeaten 36 as Derbyshire chased down a target of 217.
Taylor took the first wicket as the visitors reached 62-1, before Derbyshire took four wickets in 14 balls to reduce Lancashire to 65-5.
Conners took three in quick succession, while Anuj Dal also took a wicket to remove George Lavelle without scoring.
Lancashire recovered to 164-7 as Stephen Parry and Ben Gibbon (31) combined for an eighth-wicket half-century partnership, with the former also passing his fifty.
Parry was the last wicket to fall, eventually dismissed for 86, with Taylor picking up his second wicket as Derbyshire bowled out Lancashire for 216.
Derbyshire slipped to 32-2 in reply, before Tom Wood accelerated the innings as the hosts took the score to 87-4.
Wood then fell for 34 as Parry took his second and Tony Palladino (0) soon followed, but Smit came to the crease to steady the ship for Derbyshire.
The wicketkeeper-batsman was joined by Conners at the crease, as the fast bowler hit six maximums in a quick-fire half-century to put the Second XI within reach of the 217 target.
Smit played a patient knock alongside Hamidullah Qadri (19 not out) as the pair put on 33 runs for the ninth wicket to guide Derbyshire to victory.
