Ravi Rampaul returns to a 13-man Derbyshire squad for the Royal London One-Day Cup match away to Yorkshire Vikings on Friday 26 April; 11am start.

The fast bowler has recovered from illness and will be in contention to return to the 11, while Alfie Gleadall and Sam Conners provide further pace bowling options.

The latter claimed his maiden List A wicket in the seven-wicket win over Leicestershire, following on from his impressive performance for the Second XI on Tuesday (3-43 & 51).

Billy Godleman hit his second ton of this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup against the Foxes and he will continue at the top of the order, while the likes of Leus du Plooy, Wayne Madsen and Luis Reece offer more batting options.

Opposition

Derbyshire travel to face local rivals Yorkshire Vikings on Friday, with the hosts looking to bounce back after defeat to Lancashire in the Roses match.

Gary Ballance has started the Royal London One-Day Campaign well, hitting an unbeaten 156 against Leicestershire while he also notched a half-century against Lancashire despite ending up on the losing side.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Jonathan Tattersall has also been in fine form in the opening three matches, recording two-half centuries and 49 against Lancashire on Sunday.

Yorkshire boast a number of England internationals in their squad, including fast bowler David Willey. He has four wickets in the competition so far while he has 135 total wickets in his List A career.

Tim Bresnan is expected to support Willey in the hosts’ bowling attack, with the 34-year old taking three wickets so far, while he also hit 89 in a dramatic tied game against Warwickshire.

Yorkshire Vikings squad: Ballance, Bresnan, Brook, Coad, Leaning, Lyth, Olivier, Patterson (c), Pillans, Poysden, Tattersall (wk), Kohler-Cadmore, Waite, Willey.

Pre-Match Talk

Billy Godleman says he is playing to his strengths after making a strong start to the Royal London One-Day Cup campaign.

The 30-year-old has hit a century and one half-century in the opening three matches, while he was also pleased with Alfie Gleadall after he took his first List A wickets for the club.

“Obviously my role is to bat the majority of the overs,” said Godleman.

“It’s about trying to play to my strengths as well as using my experience to assess the conditions and what is a good total to set or set the tempo when we are chasing.

“I think it’s something I do very well although I don’t see it as my definitive role. I think in this day and age you’ve got to be flexible so it’s all about assessing it on the day.

“Sometimes one player takes the more positive role and the other knuckles down and makes sure there’s some stability for some expansion towards the end of the innings.”

“I thought young Alfie came in and offered us something different with his youth, energy and good skills and I was really pleased for him,” Godleman said.

“You won’t get too many more difficult challenges than playing against that Notts team and it was a great opportunity for him to show what he can do.

“From our side it’s just important that we keep putting ourselves in positions to win games because if we do that, I believe we will win more than we lose.”
