Dal century puts Seconds in strong position

Anuj Dal hit 126 to put Derbyshire in a strong position on Day One of their Second XI Championship fixture against Durham at The Pattonair County Ground.

Tyler McGladdery (76) notched a half-century whilst there were also contributions from Connor Marshall (47), Daryn Smit (42) and Sam Conners (40 not out) to take the hosts to an all out total of 404.

Tony Palladino then took the late wicket of Ross Greenwell (3) to reduce Durham to 14-1 at the close on Day One.

Derbyshire were watchful in the opening hour to take the score to 57-2, before Dal joined McGladdery at the crease to put on a 74-run stand for the third wicket.

McGladdery fell for 76 to end the partnership before three Derbyshire wickets fell in quick succession as the hosts slipped to 160-6.

However, Dal continued his fine form alongside Smit and Marshall to record half-century partnerships with both batsmen before the all-rounder fell for 126, with the score 350-9.

Conners and Hamidullah Qadri then added 54 for the tenth wicket, before the latter was trapped lbw for 26 as Derbyshire were all out for 404.

Only four overs remained in the day, but Palladino struck to remove Greenwell as Ryan Pringle (8 not out) and Will Smith were unbeaten overnight, with Durham 14-1 and trailing by 390 runs at the close.
