Luis Reece hit his first century of the campaign on an even Day One of Derbyshire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Glamorgan at The Pattonair County Ground.

Alex Hughes reached 63 not out to notch 3,000 first-class runs for the county, after combining with Reece for a 104-run partnership before bad light brought a premature end to Day One, with Derbyshire 253-5 at the close.

Billy Godleman and Luis Reece were watchful in the opening half hour, with Michael Hogan able to get early swing with the new ball.

Hogan then got the breakthrough to remove Godleman (11) lbw and bring Wayne Madsen to the crease in his 150th first-class match for Derbyshire.

Reece and Madsen set about rebuilding the innings for the hosts after the early wicket, bringing up their half-century partnership to take the score to 82-1.

Reece then passed his first half-century of the campaign, before Madsen fell on the stroke of lunch to bring an end to the 88-run partnership.

Derbyshire resumed on 107-2, with Reece passing his first half-century of the campaign off 90 balls shortly after the interval.

Tom Lace (6) was then caught in the slips off the bowling of Lukas Carey, before Reece continued his fine form to accelerate the hosts past 150.

Alongside Alex Hughes, he then struck his 14th boundary before bringing up three figures to record his first red-ball century in 2019.

The pair continued to keep the scoreboard ticking to take the score past 200 and earn Derbyshire a bonus batting point, before reaching their century partnership.

The partnership was worth 104 runs as Reece fell for a fine 111, before Hughes passed fifty for the second consecutive match.

Harvey Hosein (1) was then bowled by Marnus Labuschagne as Derbyshire reached the tea interval at 238-5.

Hughes and Matt Critchley kept the scoreboard ticking for the hosts over the interval to take the score to 253-5, before the day’s play was ultimately brought to an end due to persistent rain.
