Matt Critchley’s 71 couldn’t prevent defeat for Derbyshire in the Specsavers County Championship game against Durham at Emirates Riverside.

Alex Lees struck an unbeaten 107 for Durham, but Derbyshire claimed five wickets in the opening 90 minutes of the day to dismiss Durham for 242, setting a total of 268 to win.

Four quick wickets late on Day Four meant that Durham claimed the 30-run win, despite a spirited second innings chase from Derbyshire.

Derbyshire resisted the urge to take the new ball and it paid off, as Critchley took two wickets in the 81st over to start the fightback.

First, he had Eckersley (52) caught by Logan van Beek, before having Ben Raine caught by Godleman for his second nought of the game.

Carse (4) was caught by Tom Lace off van Beek after trying to hook one, before Matthew Potts was caught by Leus du Plooy for a score of two off the same bowler.

Lees brought up his century with a six, before Rushworth was run out by Godleman trying to get a quick single.

Godleman and Luis Reece put on 55 runs for the first wicket, before Reece (21) was caught behind off Potts.

Wayne Madsen fell soon after without scoring, leaving Derbyshire 60-2.

Godleman combined with Tom Lace to add 18 runs to the score before the captain was given out lbw to Rushworth for a score of 42.

The fourth wicket pairing of Lace and Alex Hughes scored steadily before the former was bowled for 24 by Raine, which brought tea.

Critchley and Hughes combined to make 85 runs before the latter was bowled by Carse for his first wicket of the match.

33 runs were added for the sixth wicket before Leus du Plooy was caught behind off Raine for a score of 19.

Derbyshire needed 34 runs with five overs to go when Critchley fell for 71, caught in the deep by Trevaskis off Rushworth.

Harvey Hosein, van Beek and Tony Palladino all fell quickly as the hosts completed a 30-run victory.
