Written by Danny Painter

An unbeaten 66-run stand between Tom Wood and Fynn Hudson-Prentice earned Derbyshire a draw in the Second XI Championship game against Leicestershire at Loughborough Town Cricket Club.

Leicestershire declared on 334-4, with Ateeq Javid top-scoring with 78, before an unbeaten half-century from Wood and 37 not out from Hudson-Prentice saw the spoils shared on Day Three, with Derbyshire closing on 142-3.

After finishing Day Two on 75 not out, Javid was only able to add three to this overnight total before he succumbed to the bowling of Hudson-Prentice and was caught behind by Daryn Smit.

Ben Mike (42 not out) and Tom Taylor (73 not out) put on 80 runs for the fifth wicket, before the hosts opted to declare on the final day with a lead of 134 runs.

Tyler McGladdery and Jessie Dinnie opened the batting for Derbyshire and combined for 19 runs before Gavin Griffiths had the latter caught behind by Tom Bates for 14. McGladdery (9) was next fall, caught behind off the bowling of Mike.

Wood and Hudson-Prentice came together after Cox (20) was caught by Javid off Arron Lilley. The pair complied their 66 runs over the course of 25 overs, with Wood bringing up his 50 with two sixes in the final over of the day.

His half-century arrived with the final ball of the match, the 138th he had faced. Wood hit Aadil Ali over the rope as part of six fours and two sixes that he struck on his way to 52 not out.

Hudson-Prentice scored his unbeaten 37 off of 73 balls, and hit four fours and one six, as Derbyshire held firm to earn a hard-fought draw at Loughborough Town Cricket Club.
