A strong Derbyshire side ran out 91-run winners over a representative Derbyshire County Cricket League XI in their final Twenty20 warm-up match at The Pattonair County Ground on Thursday.
Billy Godleman top-scored with 70 from just 34 balls, while Darren Stevens hit an unbeaten 35 and Ravi Rampaul shone with the ball.
Batting first, Godleman’s side made 221-5 from their 20 overs, with contributions throughout the order, including the captain’s blistering knock, 35 from fellow opener, Luis Reece, and a powerful display from Stevens in his first time out in the middle for Derbyshire.
Facing a mammoth chase, the League XI were soon 10-3, with a wicket with Rampaul’s first ball and a smart stumping off Stevens putting Derbyshire firmly in control.
Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby all-rounder Nils Priestley added 76 in partnership with Shane Williams (24) on his way to 48 from 45 balls.
Despite the fightback, the required run rate proved too much and Derbyshire restricted the representative side to 130-7, winning by 91 runs.
The Vitality Blast gets underway this Saturday against Yorkshire Vikings at Chesterfield, before Derbyshire return to The Pattonair County Ground to face Notts Outlaws and Lancashire Lightning the following weekend.
