Dominic Cork says that belief will be important as the Falcons aim to bounce back from their defeat to Durham.

The Falcons were unable to build on last week’s victory over Northants Steelbacks, ultimately falling eight runs short in their chase at The Pattonair County Ground.

Despite Billy Godleman, Wayne Madsen and Fynn Hudson-Prentice all making scores of 30 or more, Derbyshire were narrowly beaten by Durham, meaning they are still yet to achieve back-to-back wins in the Vitality Blast this year.

The Falcons now turn their attention to face Yorkshire at Emerald Headingley tomorrow, starting at 3pm, before playing a further three Twenty20 matches next week.

Cork admits that the defeat to Durham was a frustrating ones, but says Derbyshire must believe that they can win all of their remaining games if they are to reach the quarter-finals.

“It is one of those ones when you think ‘if one of those batsmen just goes on for another couple of overs, then the game is won’ and that is unfortunately where we lost it,” said Cork.

“We have got to go again, we know how tight this group is and we are back in action against Yorkshire, trying to get back into the winning habit.

“None of the games are easy, we have Yorkshire, Worcestershire, Leicestershire and then Notts, they are four games that we have to go out believing that we can win. If we win all four, we have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals.

“That’s how we have got to go into it, we have to believe. In every game, I have been saying ‘we are not far off’, it is unfortunate that we are just not able to get wins back-to-back. We beat Northants and should have been two in two going into Sunday, so that’s disappointing but I am sure everyone will be raring to go against Yorkshire.”
