Matt Critchley struck 155 not out on a rain-affected Day Two of the Second XI County Championship game against Northamptonshire at Hem Heath.

Harvey Hosein and Tom Wood both made 50 as the hosts whittled away at the visitors’ first innings total of 353, to close on 368-6 after rain brought an end to the day’s play.

Critchley will resume on the final morning, with Chapman unbeaten on nine, leading by 15 runs at Hem Heath.

Derbyshire began the day on 43-0, but Northamptonshire soon made the breakthrough, as William Pereira had Jack Redman (14) caught by Brett Hutton.

Hosein and Wood put on 64 for the second wicket, but neither could add any runs once they made half-centuries, leaving Derbyshire 175-3.

The highest partnership of the day came between Critchley and Josh Lacey (30), who combined to add 90 runs to the total as Critchley powered his way to three-figures in 118 balls, including nine fours and four sixes.

Shortly before the first rain delay rain came, Lacey was caught by Said Zaib off James Cronie. Derbyshire left the field on 281-4, still trailing Northamptonshire by 72 runs.

Critchley added another 53 runs to his tally before the end of the day to help Derbyshire close on 368-6, leading the visitors by 15 runs heading into Day Three.
